What is Telehealth?
The future of healthcare service delivery
Telehealth is a service that uses modern technologies for video and voice communications. Telehealth is used to deliver health care services remotely / outside of traditional in-clinic visits.
Telehealth encompasses a wide range of healthcare services allowing healthcare providers the ability to deliver much needed health-care services to those clients that are not able to attend traditional in-clinic visits.
What are the Benefits?
A few of the many benefits are listed below
Telehealth is a powerful tool enabling mental health providers a more convenient and safe environment for both the service provider and the client.
Benefits include:
- Convenience: Service providers now have the ability to work from home, the office, or virtually anywhere an internet connection is available. Easily connect with clients and deliver services that may otherwise be difficult for a client to attend a physical location for a visit.
- Flexibility: You can have actual one-on-one, real-time communication with your client literally anytime, anywhere. Schedule sessions for times that best fit you or your clients schedule.
- Accessibility: Services are now much more accessible—this can improve treatment outcomes. Clients that may not normally agree to take part in traditional in-clinic visits now have the ability to receive their much needed healthcare services without the need to leave their homes. Telehealth also allows rural clients, and/or those with reduced mobility access to services they usually would not even consider.
- Quality of Care: It has been proven that Telehealth provides a quality of care that is equal with traditional in-clinic services.
- Improved Cashflow: Reduce the common stigma/barrier many clients have when deciding to see a mental healthcare provider. Some clients may not have access to transportation or they might not be able to take time off from work. Clients can now make appointments and receive treatment anywhere they have an internet connection. Even from their smartphone. Because of this, you are much less likely to have no-shows and late appointments. There is now an easier path to offer additional hours due to the ease of connecting with clients throughout the day and evening hours allowing your practice/clinic to increase revenue by opening up additional visits.
ComplianceAs the service provider and or clinic owner, it is your responsibility to ensure you have the legal ability and correct licensure to provide services in your state. Each State has their own regulations regarding Telehealth. Check state and federal rules/laws and guidelines before you provide Telehealth services to a client. Children and adults commonly have different guidelines. Be sure to also check the guidelines and regulations for the state your client is located in during the time of the visit.Technology RequirementsYou are required to use a HIPAA compliant video conferencing system.
Simply Clinical Software offers a fully encrypted and secure end-to end solution. This conferencing system is included within the secure and encrypted Simply Clinical EMR system.
Your staff and clients do not need to download additional software to join a session.
Your system should be regularly updated. We suggest using Google Chrome or Apple Safari on iOS devices.
You will need the following:
- A newer and compatible computer, phone or tablet with an integrated speaker, camera and microphone.
- An external microphone if needed - Some devices use poor quality mics / speakers.
- External camera (if your device does not have one integrated)
- Headphone or a mic/headphone combination headset (recommended)
- A Quality High-Speed internet connection
Wifi works with well with most Telehealth systems. We recommend using a wired ethernet connection when possible instead of using Wifi. A wired connection is usually much more stable. All that being said most people choose to use Wifi due to ease of use.
